The PCC stands for Presidents’ Conference Committee and it is a streetcar design that was built in the United States in the 1930s by St. Louis Car Company (SLCCo). This model was popular in its home country and was licensed for use elsewhere in the world after World War II where PCC-based cars were produced.PCC cars are still in use worldwide.
The acronym “PCC” derived from the development committee that was established in 1929 as the “Presidents ‘ Conference Committee,” which in 1931 was renamed the Electric Railway Presidents’ Conference Committee.
Most PCCs used three pedals with the switch to the left of a dead man, the middle brake, and the right power pedal. From 1936 to 1945, PCC cars were “Air-Electrics” with air friction brakes, doors, and windshield wipers.
